I recently had the opportunity to train with former Houston Dynamo soccer player Michael Chabala. As a newcomer to the sport, I was eager to learn from one of the club's two-time champions. Chabala, who still coaches and hosts soccer-inspired fitness classes through his company Sphere, was kind enough to share his expertise with me. During our training session, I quickly realized that soccer is a true workout, requiring endurance, quick thinking, and agility. Despite my initial struggles, I was able to score two goals and high-five my teammates, who were strangers just an hour before. Chabala's advice for newcomers to the sport is to find a local facility, join a program, and simply go play. He emphasizes the importance of community and encourages adults to get involved and huddle up with their kids or friends. With the FIFA World Cup coming to Houston, there's no better time to get involved in the sport and experience the excitement of the beautiful game.
